Bonny Lake State Park was a Colorado state park near Hale in the far eastern part of the state. Established in 1966, it was Colorado’s easternmost state park until it closed in 2011. Centered on Bonny Reservoir, it was especially known for wildlife, particularly birds, with more than 300 recorded species including bald eagles, wintering waterfowl, and seasonal sandhill cranes. Mammals in the area included beaver, coyote, mule deer, white-tailed deer, muskrat, raccoon, and weasel. After Bonny Reservoir was drained in September and October 2011, the site became part of the South Republican River State Wildlife Area.
