Weybridge was chartered by New Hampshire in 1761 and settled in 1775 by Thomas Sandford, David Stow, Justus Sturdevant, and Claudius Britell. On November 8, 1778, a party of British Torries and Indians destroyed their houses and effects and carried Sandford and son, Robert D. Stow and son, Claudius C. Britell and son, and J. Studevant prisoners to Quebec. Their wives and children occupied a cellar at this place for 10 days before being taken to Pittsford by our troops. D. Stow died in prison on December 31 1778, T. Sandford escaped, and the others were discharged in 1782.
