Frederick M. Vinson was born in Louisa on Jan. 22, 1890, and became a great jurist, a distinguished Secretary of the Treasury, and a noted Congressman. He served as City Atty., Comm. Atty., Congressman from 1923-29 and 1931-38, on the D.C. Court of Appeals from 1938-43, as Director of Economic Stabilization, in the Federal Loan Admin., and as Director of War Mobilization. He became Secretary of the Treasury in 1945 and served as United States Chief Justice from 1946 until his death on Sept. 8, 1953.
