Alexander Burns died January 12, 1826, at age 87, and his wife Jane Carroll Burns died September 22, 1838, at age 78. Their remains, formerly laid in the old Seceder Graveyard at West Alexander, which later became a playground for children of an adjacent school, were transferred August 27, 1946, to the Reed family lot by their great-grandson Robert J. Reed. The reburial was fitting because Jane Burns Reed, a granddaughter, and eight other descendants rest there. Alexander Burns was a hero of two wars, the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War; he was captured by Indians, escaped after three years, and soon enlisted in the American Army, First Pennsylvania Regiment Continental Line, on August 15, 1778.
