Blue Oak Ranch Reserve
Nature
Blue Oak Ranch Reserve is a protected ecological reserve and biological field station in California’s Diablo Range, northwest of Mount Hamilton, within the University of California Natural Reserve System. Covering 3,260 acres at about 1,500 feet elevation, it supports research and education on a diverse landscape of oak woodland, chaparral, riparian forest, grassland, and wildflower fields. The land was once part of Rancho Cañada de Pala, a Mexican land grant, and joined the university in 2007 through donation by the Blue Oak Ranch Trust. Its habitats support native plants and wildlife, while also reflecting rangeland challenges from invasive species. Access is limited mainly to approved researchers and educational groups.
