Argentine Peak is a 13,743-foot mountain in central Colorado’s Front Range, within Arapaho National Forest near Georgetown. Its summit lies on the Continental Divide between Clear Creek and Summit counties, about a mile south of Argentine Pass. Both the peak and the pass were named for the Argentine District, Colorado’s first major silver mining district, whose name came from the Latin argentum, meaning silver, in reference to the ore found in the surrounding mountains. Known today as a high summit on the divide, Argentine Peak links alpine landscape with the state’s early mining past and ranks as one of Colorado’s thirteener peaks.
