Richard H. Burfoot was a famous portrait and scenic artist who came to the US in the 1880's and to Clearfield County in 1895. Later in life, his home was at this site, with a studio in his yard. He also had studios in Pittsburgh, Washington, and New York. His work is registered with the Smithsonian Institute. Burfoot painted sitting portraits of county judges, senators, governors, cabinet officers, and President McKinley.
