Jarbidge Lake is a glacial tarn in the Jarbidge Mountains of northeastern Nevada, within the Jarbidge Wilderness of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Just below Emerald Lake Pass, it sits near the southern end of the Jarbidge River Trail where it meets the West Marys River Trail and Emerald Lake Trail. As the principal source of the Jarbidge River, it holds an important place in the headwaters of this high mountain basin. Its landscape reflects its glacial origin, and its name comes from the Shoshone language, in which Jarbidge means “devil.” Today it is known chiefly as a remote wilderness lake in one of Nevada’s most rugged mountain regions.
