Founded in 2002 in Peterborough, New Hampshire, by David Blair and Linda Marsella, the Mariposa Museum and World Culture Center was created to foster awareness and understanding across cultural boundaries through a hands-on approach. It occupies Peterborough’s 1841 Baptist Church building, which was added to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places in 2011. In 2019, Mariposa expanded to Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, with a branch dedicated to the work and scholarship of African-American artists. Its exhibitions have included And Still We Rise, Freedom Songs!, works by Imo Nse Imeh and Omar Victor Diop, Stitching Time, Progeny, and Seasons on the Vine.
