In the Narrows on September 27, 1777, Capt. Wm. Forman, also spelled Foreman, and his Hampshire County troops were ambushed by Indians, and 21 were killed. They had joined the Fort Henry garrison, located on the Ohio at Wheeling, to protect western settlements.
