Cox Ford Covered Bridge spans Sugar Creek at the western edge of Turkey Run State Park in Indiana and ranks among Parke County’s notable covered bridges. Built in 1913 by Joseph A. Britton after a steel bridge was destroyed in that year’s great flood, it also incorporated wooden arches salvaged from the older Armiesburg Covered Bridge, which the same flood washed out. The structure is a single-span Burr Arch truss measuring 160 feet long, or 176 feet with its overhangs. Repainted during the Great Depression by a Works Progress Administration crew, it remains a functional crossing and a reminder of west-central Indiana’s rebuilding after the 1913 disaster.
