During the Civil War, twenty-two Kentucky courthouses were burned, nineteen of them in the last fifteen months; twelve were burned by Confederates, eight by guerrillas, and two by accident involving Union forces. The courthouse at Albany was burned by guerrillas late in 1864, and all county records were destroyed.
