At the crossroads of West Henrietta and Erie Station Roads, an early settlement known as West Henrietta Village arose and became critical to the development of the Town of Henrietta, NY. Its early buildings included the Chapman Hotel, built in 1821; a second hotel built in 1831 known as The Cartwright Inn; an early store built in 1831 and later replaced by the Edison block building after a fire; and the West Henrietta Baptist Church, built in 1838. Also there were District School No. 8, built in 1862 and now the W. Henrietta Firehouse and U.S. Post Office, the Henrietta Grange, built in 1904, and St. Mark Lutheran Church, established in 1902. North of the crossroads stood the 1832 Post Cobblestone House and a three-story 1830 cobblestone building that housed blacksmith and carriage manufacturing shops.
