Children attended school on this site from 1887 to 1978. Burlington High School was built here in 1912, and later additions included a gymnasium where the Polar Cubs played basketball from 1928 to 1961. Before that, from 1910 to 1928, the Polar Cubs shared a gym with the local men’s team above the current Beck’s Pub. The Polar Cubs also hosted the Burlington Invitational Tourney here from 1929 to 1957. The high school consolidated in 1961, and the elementary school continued until 1979. Burlington’s mascot name, Polar Cubs, is the only one in Indiana.
