Domeland Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in California, northeast of Bakersfield, covering 130,081 acres mostly within Sequoia National Forest and jointly managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. Established by the Wilderness Act of 1964 and enlarged in 1994, it protects the southern Kern Plateau and the Wild and Scenic South Fork Kern River. Its rugged granite domes, cliffs, spires, and broad bedrock expanses, including Church Dome, give the area its name. Mixed conifer forests, high meadows, deer herds, bears, mountain lions, and other wildlife define the landscape, which has also been heavily shaped by major fires, especially in 2000 and 2024.
