Highstead Foundation, formerly Highstead Arboretum, is a botanical garden in Redding, Connecticut, founded in 1982 on 36 acres of woodland, meadow, and wetland. Emphasizing regional flora, it combines native and cultivated plants, with native tree and shrub collections drawn from within a 100-mile radius. It is especially known for its mountain laurel holdings, including Kalmia latifolia, Connecticut’s state flower, and it serves as the International Cultivar Registration Authority for the genus. Highstead also maintains deciduous azaleas, including native species, and a herbarium of more than 1,000 specimens, supporting the documentation and preservation of woody plants.
