Collis P. Huntington State Park is a 1,017-acre public recreation area in western Connecticut spanning Redding, Newtown, and Bethel. Its landscape was partly shaped in the late 19th century by Walter Luttgen, who added roads, trails, ponds, and a miniature stone lighthouse to his estate. After passing through later owners, including Joseph E. Sterrett, the property became the home of Archer M. Huntington and Anna Hyatt Huntington, who renamed it Stanerigg in 1939. Following Anna Huntington's death in 1973, it opened to the public. Today it blends estate history, artistic legacy, trails, ponds, and traces of pegmatite mining into an actively used park.
