False White Mountain
Nature
False White Mountain is a high peak in northern Yosemite National Park near Tuolumne Meadows, among landmarks including Mount Conness, Tioga Peak, Mount Dana, and Lembert Dome. Ranked Yosemite’s twenty-fourth highest mountain, it is notable both for its elevation and for a name long confused with White Mountain, giving rise to the “false” designation. Various alternative names have been proposed over time, but the peak remains widely known by its current name. It is also one of the more accessible high summits in this part of the park, reachable as a day hike from Tioga Pass, and it stands in an alpine climate shaped by Pacific weather crossing the Sierra Nevada.
