This cableway winch dates to the construction of the Shoshone Powerplant in 1922 and was used to install and remove the ball plugs, trash racks, and bulkhead gate for the left abutment outlet works. It was originally housed in a hoist building on the north side of the Shoshone River Canyon about 75 feet upstream of the dam. Manufactured by American Hoist & Derrick Company of St. Paul, Minnesota, it was powered by a Westinghouse electric 7.5 horsepower motor. It was last used to aid divers using underwater cameras in inspecting the upstream dam face, trash racks, and submerged debris before the Buffalo Bill Dam modification project. The winch was removed in 1985, and the hoist building was removed in 1986.
