From the end of the Cherokee War in 1759-61 until 1777, the eastern boundary between the Cherokee Nation and the province of South Carolina followed what is now the Greenville-Spartanburg county line. In 1777, the Treaty of DeWitt's Corner extended South Carolina's western boundary to the Savannah River.
