A piece of steel from the World Trade Center was donated by the Retired New York City Firefighters of Saint Lucie/Martin Division, Florida, as a reminder of the more than 2749 people killed on September 11, 2001, including 373 New York City firefighters killed that day. The St. Lucie County Commission approved plans and funds for the project, and Mr. Patrick Cochran created the sculpture, which was dedicated March 20, 2005.
