Underhill State Park in Underhill, Vermont, lies on the west slope of Mount Mansfield within Mount Mansfield State Forest and serves as a main gateway to the mountain’s western side. The area had become a tourist destination by the mid-19th century, and the Halfway House was built there in 1858 for visitors climbing the mountain. Established as a state park in 1933, it gained much of its developed landscape through Civilian Conservation Corps work completed by 1940. Known for camping, picnicking, and trails to the summit ridge, the park also preserves notable CCC-era buildings and structures that earned National Register of Historic Places listing in 2002.
