The 54th Infantry, 55th Infantry, and 5th Cavalry of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia served from 1863 to 1865. "With Malice toward None, with Charity for All." They are dedicated to the African-American troops who trained here and distinguished themselves in the Civil War, and to those who continue to fight for equal rights and equal justice.
