Stony Brook Reservation is a large woodland state park in southwest Boston, extending into Dedham at the headwaters of Stony Brook. Established in 1894 as one of the five original reservations of the Metropolitan Park Commission, it belongs to the earliest stage of Greater Boston’s metropolitan park system and to a broader conservation vision closely associated with Charles Eliot. Its terrain rises from Mother Brook to Bellevue Hill, Boston’s highest point, giving it both geographic distinction and scenic value. The reservation and its historic parkways remain an important urban natural area, combining protected land with trails, fishing, sports facilities, skating, and swimming.
