Roji-en Japanese Gardens is a sixteen-acre Japanese garden at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, part of a two-hundred-acre site donated by George Morikami in 1973. Designed by Hoichi Kurisu and built from 1999 to 2001, it follows a mile-long path through six landscapes representing periods of Japanese garden design from the Heian era to the twentieth century. Pine trees, bamboo groves, waterfalls, granite boulders, and a seven-acre lake unify the grounds. Notable features include the Chie no Wa lantern from Delray Beach’s sister city of Miyazu, the Woodruff Memorial Bridge, and historic and memorial structures added during two construction phases.
