Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Florida, is a 50-acre nature park created from unused utility land and designed as both public wetlands and a working part of a water-reclamation system. Open-water ponds, marshes, shallow shelves, and planted islands create habitat for nesting and roosting wildlife, while a three-quarter-mile boardwalk makes the site accessible for visitors. About two million gallons of ninety percent treated water enter the park daily and are further purified naturally by wetland plants and algae before release into the surface-water supply. Known for its birdlife, the park supports more than 150 recorded bird species along with other native animals and wetland vegetation.
