Boney Peak is a 2,825-foot volcanic summit in Ventura County and one of the highest points in the Santa Monica Mountains, rising near Sandstone Peak above the western Conejo Valley. Formed from volcanic rock that solidified about 15 million years ago and was later uplifted, it now stands within protected parklands linked by trails to surrounding canyons and open space. The mountain holds special importance in Chumash cultural history as a sacred place. At its foothills stood the ancient village of Satwiwa, inhabited around 13,000 years ago and still used by the Chumash 2,000 years ago, reflecting a long and enduring connection to the landscape.
