The 747 Wing House in the Santa Monica Mountains northwest of Malibu, California, is a private residence completed in 2011 by architect David Randall Hertz, the Studio of Environmental Architecture, and associate Lucas Goettsche using major parts of a decommissioned Trans World Airlines Boeing 747-131. Built on land once associated with artist Tony Duquette, whose recycled assemblages were largely lost in the 1993 Green Meadow fire, the house continued that spirit of reuse. Two wings and two horizontal stabilizers were incorporated into a low-profile design that follows the ridge, while the project also reduced new materials, site disturbance, and energy use through extensive sustainable features.
