The Homewood Suites by Hilton at 50 M Street, SE stands on land that included a Sunoco gas station until 2006, when the station closed and was dismantled. Although early rumors predicted a hotel for the parcel, Monument Realty bought it in 2007 and announced in 2008 that an office building was planned. After six years and a recession, Englewood LLC acquired the land in 2013, and plans for a Hilton hotel were announced. The 11-story, 195-room Homewood Suites broke ground in 2015 and was completed by 2017.
