William Francis Callahan, 1891-1964, was a man of vision, courage, and accomplishment who served as Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Works from 1934 to 1939 and from 1949 to 1953, and as Chairman of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority from 1952 to 1964. He knew, but never accepted, adversity as a way of life.
