The Red Rock Line

From 1842 to 1846, white settlement in Iowa was held back at the Red Rock Line, established by the Indian Treaty at the Agency in Wappello County in 1842. Geo. W. Harrison marked the line in 1842, beginning at the Red Rock on the Des Moines River and running south to the Missouri state boundary, passing near Graceland Cemetery west of this site by 530 rods.
