Early settlers who founded the Church Des Peres and came to St. Louis from the eastern states—Kentucky, Tennessee, the Virginias, Carolinas, and New England, around 1815—are buried here. In the southeast corner of the cemetery are buried men, women, and children who were forced to live in this land as slaves; their graves were never marked, and a stone was set in their memory in 1983.
