Hole in the Mountain Peak, the highest summit in Nevada’s East Humboldt Range, rises 11,311 feet in the East Humboldt Wilderness and stands out as a major landmark above Interstate 80 because of its height and isolated position. Ranked as Nevada’s thirty-fifth highest peak and eleventh-most topographically prominent, it is also known for a distinctive natural arch called Hole in the Mountain or Lizzie’s Window on the ridge south of the summit. Visible from I-80 and U.S. 93, the arch and peak are reached only by difficult, unmaintained routes, and the mountain remains chiefly a wilderness destination for experienced hikers and climbers.
