This site was the location of Fort Andross in 1688 and of Fort George in 1694, 1715, and 1737. It was also the earliest burial place, where Benjamin Larrabee, agent of the Pejepscot Proprietors and commander of Fort George, was buried, along with Robert and Andrew Dunning, who were killed by Indians.
