Brahma Temple is a 7,551-foot summit in the inner Grand Canyon of northern Arizona, prominently rising above Bright Angel Canyon and helping define the canyon’s layered skyline. Part of a cluster of nearby buttes and towers, it was named by geologist Clarence Dutton as part of the Grand Canyon tradition of using mythological deities, and the name was officially adopted in 1906. Its rocks clearly display classic upper Grand Canyon strata, including Coconino Sandstone capped by Kaibab Limestone. Though a striking landmark, its remote, steep setting long discouraged climbers; the first recorded ascent came on May 15, 1968, from Phantom Ranch.
