Originally the Cross Roads Village of Merion Square, Gladwyne was settled by Welsh millers who prospered along Mill Creek in the late 1700's. Many of the early 19th century buildings, including the inn, village shops, and houses, are still in use, and the village contains many fine examples of 19th century vernacular architecture.
