Fork Factory Brook in Medfield, Massachusetts, is a one hundred thirty-five-acre preserve that joins a long farming landscape with the remains of small industry on Mill Brook. Its hayfields were once part of Long Acre Farm, where agriculture and rural trades continued for roughly three hundred years, and they are still cut for hay today. Industrial use began in 1771 with Joshua Morse’s grist mill, and in the early nineteenth century Henry Partridge adapted two mills to produce iron goods, especially pitchforks that gave the place its modern name. Later protected through gifts and acquisitions, the preserve now includes trails, wetlands, rocky uplands, and surviving mill features.
