Leslie J. Savage was born in Arkansas on May 18, 1883, came to Crawford, Colorado, on March 19, 1916, and died on January 22, 1969. He married Sallie L. Noble on October 10, 1906, and they had three daughters, Annie Laura, Martha, and Leslie Janie. Several abiding interests formed the structure of his life: his family, his community, the making and keeping of significant friendships all over the United States, and his bells. He was a banker, businessman, and community developer whose special projects included Black Mesa Highway 92, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument, Crawford Reservoir, the Smith Fork Irrigation Project, the Fruitland Mesa Project, and service on the Board of Trustees for the State Colleges.
