A bronze bell was cast by the Buckeye Foundry of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1882. The company was known for expert work, and many of its bells are still in use around the tri-state area. Although the foundry was primarily known for church bells, it is impossible to know who commissioned this bell because records were lost in the 1937 flood. The bell was used at the old city hall building and was removed and stored after renovation of the facility following the 1997 flood. It served as notice when fire calls were received and was rung to summon fire department personnel.
