Brown Family Homestead
History
6
The original homestead here was built in 1737 by John and Suzanne Brown on land obtained through a grant from the King of England. The Browns began with approximately 1,000 acres of land and had nine sons; as each married, his father gave him a portion of the land. Browntown took its name from the numerous Brown families who for over a century held all the land in the vicinity.
