Matthias Gish, a German immigrant of 1733, secured by grant of the Penns a homestead of 170 acres lying to the north and west of this point. His smithy stood here, and he and his wife Katharine had eight children: Christian Gish, Anna Kreitzer, John Gish, Katharine Buehler, Abraham Gish, Jacob Gish, who died without issue, David Gish, and Anna Maria Brinser.
