History
2
John West Hunter (1792-1880) was a frontiersman, farmer, entrepreneur, blacksmith, foundry owner, and community leader who became one of Birmingham's first settlers. He purchased 160 acres of land in 1818, and four years later he erected the first frame house in the settlement. This historic house, originally situated along the Saginaw Trail, now Old Woodward Avenue, was moved to the park in 1970.
