Cheaha Wilderness is a 7,245-acre protected area in Alabama adjoining Cheaha State Park within Talladega National Forest. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, it was designated by Congress in 1983 and enlarged in 1988. The wilderness is noted for its elevated landscape and wide views from Cheaha Mountain, Alabama’s highest point at 2,407 feet, where dense second-growth woodland stretches south across the park and into the forest. About 10 miles of the Pinhoti Trail cross the wilderness along a ridge and over Cheaha Mountain. The full trail extends about 100 miles, also traverses Dugger Mountain Wilderness, and links to Georgia’s Appalachian Trail.
