Bayshore Blufflands State Natural Area occupies part of the western shore of Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula and preserves one of the state’s more ecologically complex stretches of the Niagara Escarpment. Rising about 150 to 200 feet above Green Bay, the blufflands combine steep cliffs, rocky outcrops, talus slopes, seeps, springs, and sharply changing moisture conditions that support an exceptional variety of forests and plant communities. This diversity shelters numerous rare species, including dwarf lake iris, Hooker’s orchid, large-flowered ground-cherry, rare land snails, the red-shouldered hawk, and the four-toed salamander. Protected in part by the Door County Land Trust, the area is prized for both dramatic scenery and conservation value.
