In 1895 the Junior Order of American Mechanics erected the first Redlands Liberty Pole, a term derived from the American Revolution. Made from a century-old Douglas fir, the pole was moved in 1963 from the intersection of Orange, Cajon, and Citrus to this site. Deterioration of the timber forced its removal in 1995. The second Redlands Liberty Pole, 120 feet tall and made of steel, was raised here by the City of Redlands on November 11, 1995.
