Michigan’s Ninth Regiment of Infantry, commanded by Colonel John G. Parkhurst as Provost Guard of Thomas’ Corps, occupied positions near Crawfish Springs on September 18th, 1863; served as train guard to Chattanooga on the 19th; marched on the 20th to a position on the Dry Valley Road near the base of this hill, where it performed important services; and later moved to Rossville Gap.
