Mount Pinos
Nature
Mount Pinos, in Los Padres National Forest on the Ventura-Kern county line, rises 8,847 feet as Ventura County’s highest point and the loftiest summit in the Transverse Ranges west of Tejon Pass. Known to the Chumash as Iwihinmu, with the summit called Liyikshup, it holds deep spiritual importance as a sacred center in Chumash cosmology and remains a living ceremonial landscape. The mountain is also notable for its broad summit, sweeping views, severe winter snow, mild summers, significant raptor habitat, and year-round recreation, including hiking, winter sports, and amateur astronomy in its dark, dry air.
