Sugarloaf Mountain
Nature
Sugarloaf Mountain is a nine hundred-foot peak in the Hudson Highlands in Fishkill, near the Hudson River and close to Breakneck Ridge. Entirely within Hudson Highlands State Park, it is one of several New York mountains bearing the Sugarloaf name. The mountain is commonly approached by the Wilkinson Memorial Trail, whose western trailhead begins on New York State Route 9D along the river, about a mile from the summit and opposite the Breakneck Ridge station on Metro-North’s Hudson Line. The ascent begins gently and grows steeper near the summit plateau, where broad views extend over Newburgh Bay, the surrounding highlands, and nearby river communities.
