In Gage Park in Topeka, the Reinisch Rose Garden and Doran Rock Garden form one of the park’s best-known cultivated landscapes, pairing a formal rose garden with a naturalistic setting of stone, water, and specimen plantings. Planned in 1926 by E. F. A. Reinisch and opened in June 1930 after the Topeka Horticulture Society carried the project forward, the rose garden contains 400 rose varieties and more than 6,500 plants. It serves as one of 23 United States test gardens for hybridizers and is designated for All-America Rose Selections. Completed in 1932, the neighboring rock garden and adjacent Logan Test Garden underscore the site’s lasting horticultural importance.
