Mount Zion is a 4,278-foot mountain in Washington’s Olympic National Forest northwest of Quilcene, valued as a relatively accessible destination in the Olympic Mountains. Its short trail climbs about 1,340 feet in just under 2 miles, passing through second-growth fir and cedar, areas shaped by older fires, and understory plants such as Oregon grape, salal, and ferns. In early summer, blooming rhododendrons line the path. Near the upper trail, basalt monoliths rise from the forested slope, and one of the tallest offers views toward Gray Wolf Ridge. Though many wider vistas are screened by trees, the summit area still provides glimpses of Mount Baker, Mount Shuksan, and Mount Rainier.
